I was always fascinated by technology and psychology, so it was only natural I would end up finding what was then the still-new field of User Experience, where understanding people could help make technology easier to use.

Probably because of my humanities background, I have always believed good design has to be based on a deep and empathetic understanding of users, their lives, and their needs. Good design starts by understanding what a good solution is, why it is good, and how it feels, not only what it looks like. One of my usual mottos is “you cannot out-design your research”.

I am now learning to use AI effectively in Product Design, both for design work and for coding. While I find it an amazing tool (hey, this site was mostly vibe-coded!), I still find it lacking when it comes to making our designs really human, unique, and empathetic. I am also using LLMs privately for role-playing, and testing local models for image generation. I would never have believed that a local model could generate believable images in seconds.

I started my career at Telefónica R&D, where I learnt from practitioners coming from university research and early service design consultancies. It also gave me access to international courses, conferences and a very varied field of work. I was the initial Information Architect for giffgaff, and worked on products from eHealth to video hosting platforms and TV widgets.

I then moved to InfoJobs, where I was able to work on a jobs platform that affected the lives of millions of people. That was also where I learnt to work in small multidisciplinary Agile teams, using a Lean approach and focusing on outcomes. By the end, I was the most senior UX designer there, leading the redesign of their flagship Android app.

I later moved to the UK, the best place for User Experience back then, and moved into Fintech. After a brief stint at Misys, now Finastra, IG approached me.

IG has been my longest work experience. I joined IG as a Senior UX Designer and ended up as the only Principal Designer in the company. I widened my skillset, learnt to operate in complex, highly regulated domains, did a bit of mentoring and managing, and worked on international projects like adapting our trading platform to the US and Japan, working on new business lines like our Exchange Traded Products, and building the new Options interface.

I also took the time there to attend talks and conferences. The UK had a vibrant Product Design community, and I enjoyed feeling part of that.

I came back to Spain recently and have been looking for remote work. My latest work was on the trading tools team at eToro, where I used analytics to propose a redesign of the trading ticket.

Finally, I have many other interests outside Product Design. Like any good nerd, I understand the difference between northbridge and southbridge in a motherboard (doh!). I am also into video games, particularly roguelite deck builders, board games, literature, film… and I am a firm believer that understanding different media makes me a better designer.
